Plymouth airport is a bustling uncontrolled field lying 30 miles southeast of Boston. It is outside the Boston Bravo, so you needn’t worry about that, but it is busy airspace, especially in the summer, so Flight Following might be a good idea.

I don’t know if this is typical, but on the day I visited there was a steady stream of arrivals and departures, many of which were flight training aircraft pounding the pattern. I was number three for departure, and waited a little while to get out. It reminded me of flying a Katana out of Bedford one day in the early 2000’s when I was number 12 for departure! Those were heady days in general aviation.

The airport has a fuel truck, driven by town employees, who are available and happy to serve you out of their shack.

The airport is home to a number of local businesses, including Michael Goulian, the airshow performer, and NexAir Avionics, a highly-regarded full-service shop.

Plane Jane’s Place has been around as long as I have been flying, and it has always been a reliably tasty destination for a meal. It is located on the ground floor just off the waiting area. You order and pay at the front counter just inside the entrance and then take a seat when called. This set-up is sort of odd, but is made necessary by the tight fit from the counter to the front door.

The interior is bright and airy, with good views of the aviation being conducted outside.

The breakfast and lunch menus at Plane Jane’s are expansive, including pretty much anything you might want to eat. This includes real maple syrup for your pancakes, so you know this place is rocking some fine airport dining! They have a kids menu, too. They feature Speedwell Coffee, a local specialty roaster, which is part of their commitment to support local businesses.

My friend Paul and I enjoyed our visit to Plane Jane’s, and we think you will too. Have fun!
